An intriguing, decorative early 19th century mourning ring, from the late Georgian/Regency period. Constructed in unmarked yellow gold (tests as approximately 15ct), the central glazed compartment containing a woven hair panel, within a surround of seed pearls and almandine garnets with a cut down border, to the fluted trifurcated shank and closed back setting.
The ring is likely to have been a gentleman's ring, to be worn on the little finger, though could just as easily have belonged to a lady. The ring is unmarked, I would date it 1800 - 1840.
Dimension:
Size - UK J, US 4 5/8
Head - 12.40mm x 16.30mm
Rise off finger - 3.80mm
Weight - 3.8g
Condition:
Good to fair antique condition, with wear commensurate with age and use. Gemstones in good condition. Evidence of a resize. Please note, pearls are soft and sensitive gemstones which must be worn with care. Do not immerse this ring in water as the pearls will loosen.
